(cat, grass and midnight)

This is my first time with the short story challenge. I’m not a story writer, but I’ve been wanting to give it a try…I’m participating in a three things challenge by the haunted wordsmith.

Indoor Cat after Midnight 🕛

My time outside was always a special gift, not that I was allowed usually. I’m an indoor cat, so only my sisters were allowed out to bark, and act ridiculous in the yard. If by chance I did manage to sneak outside it was never long before they tracked me down like an escaped prisoner. They are a bit dramatic…

This time was different though, I snuck out undetected. No one saw a thing. My heart raced at first, in anticipation of them finding me, but no one came.

I have been having the best of time up until a few hours ago. I chased a frog through the grass into the neighbors yard, played with a moth till it quit moving, and climbed another neighbor’s cherry tree to chase the birds I’d been eyeing for days.

All that has past, it’s midnight now and I’m sitting at the back porch wanting in. Doesn’t anyone care that I’m outside? What’s a cat got to do to get noticed around here?

I hope some of you give this a try, I don’t know what I’m doing but I know many of you are sooo creative! I’d love to read your challenge…

  1. Nice story- I have indoor cats and outdoor cats and both sets stare at each other one lot wanting to come in and the other to go out- and the do too 🙂
