With our hybrid trailer, our bed was literally hanging over the river. So amazing!💗
Driving up the old McKenzie Highway
Tons of trails surround the lookout, and many mountain bikers ride the curvy, narrow highway down from the summit 22 miles.
Between the deep blue sky, the green pine trees, and white and gray snags interspersed in the lava, the colors were just spectacular. This photo doesn’t do it justice.
North and Middle Sister

Lava Lookout with markers and windows pointing to each of the volcanic peaks in the Cascades.
Summit of the old highway, only open from roughly June through October.
Lunch in Sisters, Oregon
My parents and Ryan and I eating lunch at The Depot in Sisters.
We enjoyed an outdoor lunch, but it was quite hot this day… I think upper 90’s. 😅
Car to car traffic all summer long in Sisters, a beautiful western themed high desert ranching town in Central Oregon.
We had the best weekend with my parents. I had plenty of time to read while we sat by the water each morning and evening and watched fish jump, rafts and kayakers paddle by.
These kayakers were in full wetsuits and helmets as they flew down the river. We must have seen 20 go on by.
We probably watched at least a dozen rafts float past our campsight.
We hope you enjoyed seeing our weekend on the McKenzie. If you have been following us for a while, you know this is our go to spot for a peaceful weekend! We booked our next trip here a few months out! Can not wait to return!💗
Thanks for checking it out! Hope everyone was able to make the most of the weekend and take time for yourself…
