The Wicked Deep

The Swan Sisters arrived in Oregon, in 1822.

Marguerite, the oldest, had long auburn locks, full lips, and a sharp jaw.

Aurora, the middle sister, boasted soft waves of hair and bright full-moon eyes.

And Hazel, the youngest, was the plainest of the three, with smaller features and hair that twisted into a tumbling braid.

Each was beautiful, and each was misunderstood.

A year later the townspeople executed the Swan Sisters for crimes of witchcraft, placing a curse on the small town of Sparrow—a curse that has never been broken.

Until now, perhaps….

I stumbled onto this book this past May when I was placing my Scholastic book order. I’ve had it on my TBR shelf for months, never realizing she was a local author. I’m so excited to find a new local author to follow!

This story is set in a sleepy, coastal town along the Oregon Coast. The town of Sparrow is plagued by a two hundred year curse set in motion when the townspeople executed the three sisters by drowning them at sea.

Each year on the anniversary of their drowning the three sisters come back to lure three innocent men out the sea to drown. The town has this eerie, dark cloud hanging over it that they just can’t seem to shake, almost like everyone has already given up. The townspeople only wonder who will be the next victim to wash up on shore each anniversary.

This story had a fun twist I didn’t see coming which always excites me. I’m not usually up for spooky books but this one had just the right amount of creepiness without keeping me up at night and I was definitely satisfied with the ending! 💗
