Throwback Thursday ~South Jetty, Thousand Trails

A throwback post to one of my first posts on where we are leasing a campsite. I am looking forward to a 3 day weekend for us this weekend. Originally posted in May 2018…

The forecast for Sunday promised mid 60’s and blue sky! So we packed up the Yukon and headed to the beach! The South Jetty Campground is a mile south of Florence, Oregon and about 2 mile drive beyond the dunes till you get to the jetty where Ryan usually surfs.

Since it’s just an hour drive from Eugene, and if we can’t get away for the weekend we’ll often come over for just a day pass to the campground. They have a large outdoor pool, hot tub, family rec center, and 2 playgrounds. Ryan drops us off at the campground to go catch some waves before we go out for lunch.

No trip to Florence is complete without a walk through Old Town, and an IPA on the waterfront. After we make all our usual stops we start our trip back towards Mapleton in search of the Sweet Creek Trailhead.

From Mapleton on HWY 126 we head south on Sweet Creek Rd for about 10 miles to the trailhead. There is a small parking area and thankfully an outhouse! O.o

This hike surpassed all our expectations! It’s an easy family trail, great for kiddos and doggies. The trail winds along Sweet Creek passing several little falls and bridges along the way. Heading back towards 126, we saw a herd of elk down near the creek and we stopped to get a better look. Unfortunately they were too far away to get a great photo.

If your looking for an easy family hike within an hour from Eugene or 30 minutes from the campground, this is a great stop!

  1. How to great is it to own a place to park your trailer and enjoy all the time. We hope to get 2 more camping trips in before we have to call it an end to our season.

    • It’s super nice to have our trailer in one spot! It’s just for the year, but maybe we will lease it again next year if it works out well… I hope you get to camp some more too!

    • Oh boy! There is quite a distance there… yes, I am excited to head there this evening for a three day weekend! we are hoping for a sunny forecast! And I have a stack of e-books waiting for me… ❤️

    • Thank you! We definitely feel lucky. But the Oregon coast will get it’s share of rain, last year it rained from October till May hardly stopping… but this year is supposed to be dryer! 🤞🏻
