Synopsis:

Taken from Goodreads

Cinder, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She’s reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she finds herself at the center of a violent struggle between the desire of an evil queen— and a dangerous temptation.

Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future.

My Review:

Cinder is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles Series, and even though I am not a huge fan of reading an entire series, I will definitely be buying the next few books as soon as I am in the bookstore again!

This was a fun story that puts a futuristic twist on the classic Cinderella Tale! It’s probably one of my favorite dystopian books I’ve read!

Cinder is one tough 16 year-old cyborg. She lives with her(very evil) stepmother, during a time when a deadly plague is ravaging their homeland. She is overly self-conscious of her robotic body parts, treated like a second-class citizen, and unwanted by her stepmother. Her life is anything but easy!

Cinder works as a mechanic with a very mysterious past. She knows nothing about her parents or even who she is. When her stepsister becomes ill, Cinder begins to uncovers things about her past she can hardly believe.

If you haven’t read this one yet I’d go pick it up! I should have read it when it first came out! I’ve added a few discussion questions if you’d like to discuss the book with me…

  • Which character do you most identify with in Cinder and why?
  • Do you have any favorite retellings of other fairy tales?
  • Is there a fairy godmother in Cinder, and if so, who is it?

Have you read all of The Lunar Chronicles Series? Do you have a favorite one? I’d love to hear your thoughts…

    • Oh boy that’s exciting… what a great story to get lost in.. that makes me want to go to the bookstore tonight! Thank you!

  1. Yay! I’m so glad you liked Cinder!! I hope you love the rest of the series too!
If you like retellings, you should also check out Marissa Meyer’s Heartless, which is about the Queen of Hearts 🙂

    • Thank you for that recommendation I totally will add that one to my list on goodreads! Thanks for stopping by today! Did you have a favorite of Meyer’s books?

      • I definitely fell in love with the world of Luna and Earth. I think Meyer has a knack for writing retellings, which is why I really enjoyed reading the Lunar Chronicles.

      • AHH!! I don’t know, but I’ll say either Scarlet or Cress. Scarlet is filled with action, but Cress appeals to the romantic side of me 🙂

      • Oh boy, I am excited to get to them now… and I have a stack of NetGalley books waiting for me first! 😳
Thanks for Sharing your thoughts. I wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I did. I was thinking it would be about as good as Scythe, but I liked Cinder much better!

      • I am not super into dystopian novels, so I’m not sure what made me pick either of these books. Scythe is a great, unique novel.. but I just didn’t get into it as much as I liked Cinder. I think this one was much more fun! But I’d love to read your thoughts on it when you read it.
