“Are we almost there?” Chester Raccoon asked his mother. Chester is excited about going to his very first sleepover. After his mother drops him off at Pepper Opossum’s house with a Kissing Hand in his palm, Chester and his animal friends have a long day of playing games and eating snacks. But when the animals decide to bed down, Chester can’t go to sleep. While his Kissing Hand has kept him from getting scared, he isn’t in his own bedroom, and he misses his family. When Chester returns home, Mrs. Raccoon welcomes her little cub and reassures him that his home is always there when he needs it.
Young readers will enjoy reading about the party fun and take comfort when Chester finds himself in a situation they can relate to.

My Review:

This is an adorable picture book about Chester the raccoon’s first sleepover with Pepper Opossum. Many woodland animals come out for a fun play day. At bedtime though, Chester is feeling homesick as most kiddos tend to do on their first sleepover. 4EE50F8A-F6DC-43C8-A248-0FFD745E41B0
The illustrations are wonderful and I think the topic is very relatable. This could start a fun preschool discussion on sleeping in an unfamiliar place and how that makes you feel.

This famous raccoon might seem familiar to you. Audrey Penn is also the author of the best selling picture book The Kissing Hand. I didn’t realize this when I requested it, but The Kissing Hand is on our shelf and is one of our favorites!

Thank you to Tanglewood Publishing and NetGalley for this e-copy in exchange for my honest review, my opinions are my own.

 Happy Reading Friends!❤️

  1. Aw I remember Chester Raccoon from when I was kid! I should try this book with my daughter (she’s 2 so won’t be having sleepovers anytime soon but I’m sure she’d love the illustrations)! Thanks for the review!

    • I hope she likes it! There are lots of adorable woodland critters in the story playing and having fun! I bet she would enjoy the pictures!
